All of our activities are organised to achieve the six Early Learning Goals as required by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), and to take account of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which is a comprehensive statutory framework published in 2007 by the Department for Children Schools and Familys (DCSF, www.dcsf.gov.uk). The framework sets standards for development, learning and care of children from birth to five.

The EYFS is based on four principle themes

The six areas of Learning and Development are

    .

    Little Acorns

    Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Children learn to respect themselves and others, develop relationships and friendships. They are able to work in small and large groups where they are able to focus on a fange of activities and develop their own interests..

    Communication, Language and Literacy
The children learn to communicate by speaking, listening and mark making through being read a wide range of books and writing for a variety of purposes during play and carpet time.

    Mathematical Development
This area of learning includes counting, sorting, matching, patterns, shapes, space and measurements. This is all developed through stories, songs, games, imaginative play, craft and written number skills.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
In this category, the children develop cultural knowledge, skills and understanding which later forms the foundation for science, history, geography and technology.

    Physical Development
Here the children improve skills in co-ordination, balance, control, manipulation, movement and gain confidence in their own ability.

    Creative Development
This area of learning includes art and craft, music, role-play and imaginative play. Children have time to explore a variety of materials and activities.
